Uzodimma’s 5b naira loan not for vehicles’ but for infrastructural development – Govt Source

Contrary to the believe and impression in many quarters that the 5B Naira loan recently sought by Gov. Hope Uzodimma through the State House of Assembly was to be used for the purchase of vehicles for certain Government functionaries and higher-level civil servants, the said bulk fund was essentially earmarked for critical infrastructural development in the state.
A top Government source who spoke to Nigerian Newsguide against the backdrop of the controversies the 5B Naira loan have generated in the state described the purveyors of such flying news as harbingers of fake news and unpatriotic media handlers who are neck-deep in sensationalism and anti-development tendencies.
Specifically, the source hinted that the said loan was solely for roads, public water and other critical public utilities that actually have bearing with the yearnings and aspirations of the Imo masses. It noted that Gov. Hope Uzodinma can never be economically foolish as to apply for a whooping 5B Naira only to use same for the purchase of just vehicles.
According to the source, all the vehicles purchased for commissioners and other aides of the governor alongside the coaster buses that convey civil servant to and from their offices have been 100 percent paid for long ago. “The truth is that our people are yet to appreciate the kind of person Gov. Hope Uzodimma is, he loves Imo more than any of the so called leaders in the opposition parties.
“The 5B Naira loan for vehicles was a fake news, we have so many broken down roads in Imo and the Governor in his wisdom decided to apply for the loan so that as soon as the rains subside, massive road construction, rehabilitation and provision of other critical infrastructural needs will be activated in earnest”.
The Government source however advised some Journalists in the state to be a little circumspect and investigative in their reportage in order to make a good name just for themselves instead of thriving in professional irresponsibility and unethical conduct by feeding the innocent public with falsehood to impress the opposition in the state.
It added that already some roads within the Owerri metropolis have started receiving attention and more road reconstruction would follow suit anytime soon.
“Imo state does not have huge funds to do massive road construction and that is why the Governor deemed it wise to get some loan to make up with what the state has already so as to engage the services of a construction giant like Julius Berger Plc which he had promised to bring long ago to do roads that would last for decades unlike what the previous administrations did in the state that everyone is suffering today”.
