Biz man whose house, means of income were burnt to ashes in 2012 cries out to Gov. Uzodimma, Hon. Nwaneri, Akatta Community, others
If there is one man whose life and that of his family could be described as being miserable, hopeless and pitiable, it is one Mr. Eugene Ugonna Onyebuagu, a native of Umudara, Akatta in Oru East Council Area of Imo state. Prior to 2012, Onyebuagu, a titled Chief and successful international businessman was doing well and living with his wife and children very comfortably. He had good cars which he used each time he was in Nigeria (Akatta), motorcycle for his wife and goods always stocked in his house which he imported from abroad, which his wife and proxies sold on his behalf and gave returns to him each time he visited home.
Since 2012, the man in question and his family are homeless and beggars of sort, courtesy of a well coordinated arson that razed down his house, cars and goods worth several millions of Naira over murder allegation that turned out false.
Eugene Onyebuagu is therefore appealing to Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, former Imo State Governor now Senator for Orlu Zone, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Member for Oru East in the State House of Assembly Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, HRH Eze Eugene Okolie, DCP Benneth Igwe, Accountant General Imo State Sir Val Obieze and the entire Akatta community to help him get a roof over his head and that of his family. He is equally pleading with the figures mentioned above and good spirited individuals in Imo state and beyond to help him source some funds to get himself re-established.
Conducting Nigerian Newsguide team around his burnt house and site of the gory incident in 2012 which had turned into a thick bush, Eugene Onyebuagu who could not hold his tears said his issue is a case of a man falling from Hero to Zero attributing his misfortune to his step brother, Mr Christopher Onyebuagu and one Josiah Chinemerem from Nimo Anambra state but lived in his community, Akatta. He revealed that his step elder brother Christopher and the said Josiah conspired against him and linked him with the murder of one Jude Agazie, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said to have been gruesomely murdered in August 2012 by unknown gunmen.
According to the homeless man, his brother and Josiah wanted him and his younger brother dead by all means over a family land issue, wherein his step brother wanted to take all without consideration for his younger brother Lambert Onyebuagu.
On 19th August 2012, (Sunday) I was in my house with my wife and children when I heard a loud noise of a crowd surging towards my house. When I peeped from the window, I saw one Ngozi Agazie, youngest brother of the murdered police officer Jude Agazie, with him were one Harrison from Mgbidi, Ekwutosi Agazie, Josiah Chinemerem, Linus Onyebuagu and many others led by my step elder brother Christopher Onyebuagu.
Immediately they entered my house, they removed the tarpaulin covering my cars parked inside the compound and started destroying everything. With the crowd and motive behind their visit coupled with the fact that they were armed with cutlass, axe and other dangerous weapons, we took to our heels through an opening we quickly created from the fence behind. They were prepared to kill all of us but thank God he saved us. By evening that day, we were told that my twelve room bungalow all ensuite, two Mercedes Benz cars, a Qlink Ogbuawa motorcycle, furnitures, goods I imported from abroad yet to be sold and everything I labored to acquire, were burnt to ashes in that singular arson over a mere allegation that I was linked to the murder of a police officer which I knew nothing about. My son Chibueze was so unfortunate, as he could not escape with us earlier enough as such he was roasted alive by these agents of darkness, May his soul rest in peace. My brother’s house (a-storey building under construction), just decked as at that time was also pulled down by the visiting demons.
While my wife and children fled to Omuma my inlaw’s place, I left to Umuahia and reported myself to Zone 9 Police headquarters. My presence in Umuahia made the Police to return me to Owerri (Imo command headquarters) where my step elder brother and his cohorts had incidented a murder case against me and my brother and had already locked up my younger brother Lambert. When we got to Owerri, the Zone 9 Police asked that the arson case be investigated and determined first before any other thing, but Imo Police chose to do otherwise and got “order from above” vide a Magistrate Court and remanded me and my brother Lambert in Owerri prison with effect from 26th Nov. 2012. From 2012 to January 2019, I was in prison under Awaiting Trial, from where we were regularly moved to High Court Mgbidi (Justice Nnodim’s court) for trial.
My lawyer, Barr. B.C Ogbuawa fought like a wounded lion until I was discharged and acquitted on 14th Jan 2019 after spending seven good years in prison.
While I was in prison with my younger brother, my mother, Maria Onyebuagu developed heart attack and died along the line. Christopher and his team also buried my mother without our consent. I never saw her corpse nor wrote any tribute to bid her good bye. Thank God that a High Court had discharged and acquitted me since last year but I am no longer a man, to feed and cater for the needs of my family. I am homeless, my children out of school for eight years now. I am an internally displaced person and a refugee in my father land. So I beg our Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, who is from Omuma our neighboring town, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri (House Member for Oru East), Eze Akatta HRH Eze Eugene Okolie, DCP Benneth Igwe, Accountant General Imo State-Sir Val Obieze, the entire Akatta community and people of goodwill to help raise a roof over my head and family. I also beg for some funds to enable me re-establish myself. I can be reached via these phone numbers: 07064363702, 07036728788. Account Number: 0811717720, Access Bank PLC. Eugene Onyebuagu Onyemesim.
Reacting to the development, the traditional ruler of Akatta HRH Eze Eugene Okolie condemned the unfortunate incident that took place in his Kingdom in 2012 and blamed the arsonists for taking laws into their hands. Eze Okolie who spoke to Nigerian Newsguide team led by the Publisher of the newspaper, Mr Chidi Emeagi recently said he never had intelligence or earlier report about the arson otherwise would have nipped it in the bud, however confirmed to our team that he is in the possession of the certified true copy of the High Court Judgement that discharged and acquitted Mr Eugene Ugonna Onyebuagu, as such, no man or woman can harass him again over the murder allegation. Eze Okolie however sympathized with the victim and his family over the sad incident and promised to reach out to some illustrious sons and daughters of the community under the aegis of Akatta Elites to see what they can do to assist Mr Onyebuagu get a house, and possibly be re-established.

He said he had not heard of the story until recently, even as he explained that Akatta community was not known for such unimaginable, odd and weird happenstance.
