As Ikeduru Anglican women holds annual conference
Wife of the Bishop of Ikeduru Anglican Diocese, Mrs Anuli Maduwuike (Nnedimma Ikeduru) has decried the rate of divorce and rape cases in Nigeria even among Christians. She stated this in her presidential address at the 7th Women General Conference of the Diocese held in St John’s Church Owu-Amakohia weekend.
Mrs Maduwuike lamented that marriages that are barely months after consummation have hit the rocks because of jejune reasons. The Prelate’s wife noted that most times, the reasons for this high rate of divorce are so petty but basically hinged on assault and adultery.
“The mothers of Ikeduru Diocese condemn divorce in Christian families while frowning at the disappearance of genuine Christian homes. We advocate tolerance and fear of God in marriages”.
On the scourge of rape, Mrs Maduwuike condemned the reprehensible and wicked act, adding that it was disheartening the rate at which older men defile minors with reckless impunity. She advocated a specific legislation that would stipulate heavy punishments for rapists, such that would deter people from even imagining it let alone committing the abominable and shameful act. On the theme of the conference, GOD, HIS NATURE AND CHARACTER (John 17:3), Nnedimma Ikeduru noted that God’s nature is love and Power, and His presence everywhere such that His majesty and omnipotence can do all things including creating “something out of nothing”.
She submitted that the Triune God as a team are ever ready to take care of the many challenges facing Christian families and homes. She therefore called on all to shun sin and faithlessness but trust in God’s power, divine nature and character in order to survive in trying times and situations.
Bishop of the Diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Maduwuike while declaring the conference officially open commended the women for their development strides and initiatives which he said were really complementing his own in moving the Diocese forward.
A former Deputy Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly Sir Jonas Okeke in his key note address charged the women to take their full responsibilities as home keepers and save the society from completing drifting in all facets. Okeke however warned some women who commit all sorts of immoral acts in the name of politics, insisting that one can still make it as a Christian woman politically without sleeping around with all manner of the so called highly placed men.
Wives of some Bishop’s from within and outside Owerri Province also gave their Goodwill messages at the occasion. Host Archdeacon Ven. Israel Ezurike, other clerics in the diocese, Chairman and members of the Local Organising Committee including Lady Chinwe Asogu, Director of News and Current Affairs IBC Owerri were all on ground to ensure the success of the conference. Vice President Council of Knights Ikeduru Diocese, Sir Alex Emekalam, President of the Diocesan ACFF Sir George Ohanyiri, Sir Goddy Emele and Mr Chidi Emeagi, Publisher, Nigerian Newsguide newspaper were among the dignitaries at the event. The conference came to a close with a special Thanksgiving service on Sunday.
