Member representing Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo (OZB) has empowered 60 people of his constituency with different types of vehicles – Sienna, Hummer bus and Volkswagen Passat.
The empowerment programme is the third in series since he was elected into office in 2019.
Over 100 people benefitted in the first phase while no fewer than 150 persons were empowered in the second phase.
Speaking at the well-attended event which held at Central School, Umuozu, Nwangele LGA, the federal lawmaker said that the empowerment programme became necessary to improve the transportation system in the federal constituency.
He expressed the hope that the beneficiaries will empower five other people in no distant time.
OZB announced that the next batch of empowerment will take place in three months’ time when about 600 constituents will be lifted out of poverty, empowered through skill acquisition programmes and given grants that will enable them to become self-reliant.
He informed that through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the proposed Owerri-Nkworji civic center has been captured in the 2021 budget.
He also thanked the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha for her kind intervention in the rehabilitation of the hitherto dilapidated Nkwomiri market.
Senator representing Imo West and former Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha commended Speaker Gbajabiamila for granting the requests of the “rescue mission family”, part of which was the emergence of Rep Ozurigbo as the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary.
Describing Ozuruigbo as his political son in whom he is well pleased, Okorocha assured the people of the constituency of OZB’s continued philanthropy.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, represented by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ado Doguwa thanked OZB for impacting on the lives and welfare of his constituents and said that the lawmaker has provided the needed bridge to link up his constituency with some other constituencies in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He said members of the 9th Assembly are proud of OZB.
“OZB, I will like to say that House of Reps members are proud of you just like your people are proud of you. You have gathered your people to give back to them, in their own right hand, what they gave you during electioneering campaign. What we are doing here today is not only unprecedented, it is exceptional. This is an uncommon representation in this State that we have ever seen.”
Doguwa urged OZB to keep the flag flying while noting that members of House of Reps have been doing all kinds of empowerment programmes to empower their people especially in the challenging period the nation is facing.
“What we are witnessing here today is a manifestation of the fact that we are not only sensitive but we are responsible to the people who have elected us into our various offices. What we are seeing here today is what is going on across the length and breadth of Nigeria where Reps of the people are impacting on the lives and wellbeing of the people who elected them into their offices. We will continue to encourage that and our members will continue to do that so that we can supplement and also support the policies and programmes of the government of the center.”
“My prayer for this federal constituency, on behalf of the Speaker is that, if in a period of one and half years, OZB could be able to put on ground, this magnitude of intervention, it confirmed to me that OZB can be an unbeatable Member of House of Reps. I therefore urge you – the people of this federal constituency to continue to vote for OZB so that he will continue to do more for you.”
The Majority Leader however, lavished encomiums on Senator Rochas Okorocha for the feats he achieved when he held sway as Governor of the State.
“Your Excellency, they have shown me the hospitals you built, the new roads you constructed, new schools, blocks of classrooms you built for the kids. I want to say that you are doing a lot for APC in this part of the country. We will continue to be proud of you. It is my prayer to replicate and represent the presence of the ruling class in Southeast. We have one golden opportunity that Nigeria will pay you back.”
Deputy Chief Whip, House of Representatives, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha remarked that OZB is doing wonderfully well and has shown effective representation.
Dr. Nnamdi Ogaraku, Director General of Team Ordinary People, while speaking in a chat with the Press, urged OZB to continue with the good works even as he advised beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity.
He explained that Team Ordinary people is a political organization designed massively for political mobilization.
A beneficiary of the empowerment programme, Mr. Liberty Iheanyichukwu Eboh of Ishi Owerri village, Owerri Nkwoji, Nkwerre LGA described OZB as man of the people and prayed God to bless him richly.
“Our Federal Rep Member, Enyioha, may God continue to bless you and your family, you will keep winning.”
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila was at the occasion conferred the titles of Nwanne Di Na Mba and High Chief by traditional rulers of the federal constituency.
Among those in attendance were some Reps Members from Taraba, Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Paschal Obi of Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, former Imo State governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu, former political appointees and associates etc.
