The football tournament sponsored by the Member representing Owerri West State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi has ended, with Team Eziobodo coasting to victory with the sum of N500,000 and a trophy.

Team Eziobodo scored three goals to beat Team Obinze in the finals played at Baptist Church Field, Obinze.

A severe defensive blunder by Obinze players placed Eziobodo ahead of the game and just before the close of half time, striker Chikwesiri from Eziobodo netted another goal from outside the 18-yard box.
75 minutes into the game, Team Obinze conceded a 3rd goal, before scoring a late consolation goal at the 80th minute.
Team Obinze got N250,000 cash and bronze medal.

Team Ihiagwa emerged 3rd in the tournament and were given N100,000 cash.
Chikwesiri of Eziobodo was named the Highest Goal Scorer of the tournament with four goals after getting a brace in the finals and was handed the sum of N20,000 cash for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

Most Valuable Player, KC and Best Keeper of the tournament, Ekezie Godson Chukwuebuka, both of Team Obinze got N20,000 each.

Sponsor of the tournament, Hon. Onyemaechi Kanayo had during the kick-off ceremony, expressed his love for sports and urged the players to take the tournament serious, noting that experts were on ground to scout for players.

Special Adviser on Agricultural Development Programme, High Chief Gibson Achonwa Njemanze (Oyiga) while speaking to the Press, commended Honourable Kanayo Onyemaechi for organizing the tournament.
He hinted that the government of Senator Hope Uzodinma is doing everything possible to get the youths in each of the 27 LGAs organized through sports.

He assured that talents abound from the two finalists – Teams Obinze and Eziobodo.
“I believe we have up to 4-5 talents that can be chosen for future competition especially in our State – the Heartland FC”, Achonwa said.

General Manager, Heartland Football Club, Mr. Chukwudi Ifeanyi and other top management officials of the State-owned football club were present at the finals to hunt for players.

Mercy Cultural Dance were on ground and thrilled the spectators with wonderful acrobatic displays before commencement of the game and during half time.

The tournament featured the 10 wards in Owerri West Council Area to wit: Avu /Oforola ward 1, Umuguma ward 2, Okuku ward 3, Emeabiam/Okolochi ward 4, Eziobodo ward 5,
Others are: Ihiagwa Ward 6, Nekede Ward 7, Obinze Ward 8, Amakohia-Ubi/Ndegwu/Ohii Ward 9, Irete/Orogwe Ward 10.
