Mr. Christopher Nwaneri has emerged Chairman of Umuihugba-Umuodu Youth Organization in an election held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Umuihugba Civic Hall, Owerri, Imo State. Nwaneri polled 68 votes to beat other contestants, Onyealisi Henry and Okeonu Kingsley who scored two votes each.
His emergence makes him a member of Umuihugba Welfare and Development Union (UWDU) – a council of eminent and selected members of Umuihugba-Umuodu Autonomous community.
Ngoka Ifeanyi polled 63 votes to emerge Vice Chairman of the association after defeating Ihebom Kennedy who secured only four votes.
Nwamadu Chimaraoke emerged Secretary of the youth body. He polled 42 votes to defeat Prince Anoruo Obinna and Osuji Chijioke who got four and 21 votes respectively.
Swearing-in the newly elected executives, the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodinma on Security Matters, Hon. Damian Okoro, advised the new executive members to serve the association without undue influence. He charged them to discharge their duties to the best of their abilities and not to allow their personal interests override that of the community. The SA harped on the need for the exco members to repackage, restructure and rearrange themselves for the tasks ahead, while appealing to them to jettison characters that are unworthy of an elected official of any organization.
Describing their election as a no mean feat, Okoro counseled against any form of bad behavior and challenged the newly elected executives to come up with a blueprint on what to do for the community.
President General of the community, Mr. Ferdinand Anoruo remarked that history has a way of compensating people, while recalling the efforts of some members of UWDU past years. Congratulating the newly elected executive members on their election, Anoruo cautioned against any form of misappropriation that will pit them against the community.
Onye Ishi Ala Owerri, Mr. Ejiogu Reginald Kelechukwu urged the new excos to be dedicated. He reminded them of the enormous task ahead and urged them to ensure they leave a lasting legacy after their two-year tenure. He advised them to be magnanimous in victory and eschew bitterness and rancor.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Christopher Nwaneri thanked the electoral committee, the security and other members of the community that worked towards ensuring the election was free, fair and peaceful.
While praying God to give him wisdom and strength to deliver on the mandate given to him as Chairman, Nwaneri assured, on behalf of his exco members, not to run the community aground.
