Orlu Massacre: Our Stand

It is no longer news that the clash between Nigerian Military and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) of Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has resulted to many deaths of innocent civilians and scores of injured persons in Orlu communities and some local governments in Orlu zone, what is news is the inhuman treatment meted to unarmed civilians by armed police men even after the withdrawal of ESN operatives.

Reports from Orlu have it that the police have gone out of their way of maintaining peace and order to intimidate, molest and harass residents even in their homes.
Carrot junction/Umuna road, Total/Owus avenue, St Joseph/Amaigbo road, Old Emezie street, Bank road, Ihioma road, Ngumoha/ Nkwuito, Banana junction and Afor Ogidi are now a ghost town as business owners have abandoned their wares to save themselves from the wicked and brutal acts of armed and fierce looking mobile police officers, who maltreat and manhandle them without a drop of mercy.

A traditional ruler in Orlu Eze B.C. Okereke of Uzoubi Umuna was reportedly manhandled and asked to do frog jump by these supposed law enforcement agents.
Eyewitnesses say that the situation is better witnessed than imagined.
“Armed officers were entering houses after houses, maltreating residents in their homes”, our sources revealed.

While some residents are made to roll on the floor and flogged mercilessly, others receive the beaten of their lives for committing no crime and nothing they know of.

Some video clips showed military officers firing live bullets sporadically resulting to deaths of innocent civilians by stray bullets.
We, at Nigerian Newsguide frown at this ugly development and condemn it in its entirety. We make bold to request that Imo Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma led government withdraw the armed mobile police officers in Orlu and its environs so that it doesn’t degenerate into a total humanitarian crisis.

We also demand that urgent steps be taking to evacuate the armed Mobile Police men from Orlu and also direct them to stop molesting and brutalising the innocent civilians and preventing them from going about their normal businesses.
A word they say, is enough for the wise.
