…Promises more in few months to come

Well over 100 women from the three LGAs in Owerri Federal Constituency viz Owerri Municipal, Owerri West and Owerri North weekend smiled home with several reasonable amounts of money to sustain their businesses and for startups where necessary. The gesture was courtesy of Hon. Ikenna Elezieanya, member for Owerri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives Abuja.

The Lawmaker is also noted to have given more than 100 youths from his Constituency particularly graduates good jobs in several Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the past 18 months without any noise.

Hon Ikenna Elezieanya’s empowerment program which was code-named “”Financial Grant to Rural Market Women in Owerri Federal Constituency Phase 1” was described as an unprecedented benevolence from a serving legislator in the Federal Constituency.

The empowerment event which held in Owerri on Saturday, February 6, 2021 saw men, women and youths jubilating whilst beneficiaries who were stunned at the rare gesture prayed God to always grant the PDP Lawmaker good health and security so that he would continue to live a life of charity for humanity.

In his speech at the empowerment ceremony, Elezieanya, an engineer and former Chairman Owerri West Council Area reminded the people that the gesture was part of his promises during his electioneering campaigns, a time he promised them of quality and effective representation, in addition to making their welfare and economic well-being paramount.

Elezieanya who was visibly sad that the coronavirus pandemic affected businesses, slowed down economies, left many people jobless, as well as increased poverty in the land, said his phase 1 rural women empowerment program was geared towards starting up new businesses for beneficiaries or help them sustain those not doing well due to the current economic reality. He promised that the 2nd phase of the empowerment would be a little more inclusive and begged those not considered now to be a little patient and hopeful.

“Therefore, to alleviate hunger and poverty, I set out on this journey of empowerment of which over a 100 women have benefitted today. You can agree with me that when you empower a woman, automatically you have empowered her family and society by extension. Women are shoulders on which their families lean on. I strongly believe that supporting our women who are already engaged in small businesses with these grants today will surely have direct positive impact on their families”, Elezieanya said.

The former Chair Imo State House of Assembly Committee on Energy advised the beneficiaries not to see the non refundable cash as pocket money to be spent any how but to strictly use it to either startup or sustain their businesses.

He used the occasion to appreciate his people for their support and prayers thus far.
Elezieanya re-echoed that “Owerri Federal Constituency is our home and we must work together to make it a better place for all of us”

An elder statesman, Chief Ambrose Ejiogu, who chaired the event described the empowerment as worthwhile and commendable, and paid glowing tributes to Elezieanya for fulfilling his campaign promises.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Joy Ekedube, from Emeabiam, Owerri West, who promised to judiciously use the money to boost her stockfish business, thanked God for using Elezieanya to touch their lives positively.

Honourables Solomon Anukam and Philip Ejiogu members for Owerri Municipal and Owerri North in the Imo State House of Assembly alongside State PDP woman leader, Mrs Maria Mbakwe and Chief Analyn Nwaneri among other leaders in the Federal Constituency witnessed the ceremony.
