Imolites appeal to Uzodimma not to demolish OZB’s “Sweet Peace Suites” in New Owerri

A number of Imolites have made a passionate appeal to Imo State governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma not to make the on-going recovery of private and government properties forcefully taken by former Gov. Rochas Okorocha and family appear like a witchunt or political vendetta of sort. To this end therefore, they have pleaded with him to halt the move by his administration to demolish or pull down a new generation hotel owned by a Member of the House of Representatives and former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo popularly known as OZB.

The hotel known as Sweet Peace Suites located at BF 26 Area E, behind Concorde Hotel New Owerri was on Monday last week 08-03-2021 marked “REMOVE” same inscription placed on all the buildings and facilities marked for demolition by the government team.

Some Imolites who spoke to Nigerian NEWSGUIDE on the subject matter lent their support to Gov.Uzodimma’s move aimed at recovering all government properties and that of individuals cornered during the Okorocha era alongside pulling down those built without approval however differed on that of OZB’s Sweet Peace Suites. According to them, available information from Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo showed that the said hotel had all approvals from both Owerri Capital Development Authority and Ministry of Lands before it was built, moreso that fact that the hotel was neither built on green belts nor in contravention of the laws on public buildings and purposes.

Nigerian Newsguide reporter who visited the hotel on Thursday 12-03-2021 discovered that the next building to Sweet Peace Suites known as a Hotel OBIDAYA was not marked for demolition along with a building opposite it housing a restaurant. Two other houses adjacent to Sweet Peace Suites were also standing unmarked, reinforcing the feeling that OZB may have been singled out for punishment because of his allegiance to the Ex Imo governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
