“Spirit told me to burn down Charly Boy’s house” – Suspect claims

As Imo Police Command parades Bishop Chikwe’s kidnappers.

A 2019 graduate of Imo State University, Owerri, Ogbonna Emmanuel is cooling off in police net after a failed attempt to raze a building belonging to Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy.

Ogbonna said he never intended to commit the act, but the spirit that possessed him forced him to throw fire into the building.
He said, “I heard a voice that ordered me to go and burn down Charly Boy’s house”.
“Since I graduated and came back to my community, something talks to my memory, pushing me to do the things I don’t like.”
Ogbonna, who is a bricklayer said he lost patronage from people and that his condition worsened when he sought the face of God, adding that since his detention in the police, the spirt had left him.

He admitted taking hard drugs with his friends.
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu who briefed the press Wednesday, said operatives of the Divisional Police headquarters in Oguta, had on 8/03/2021 arrested Emmanuel Ogbonna of Amazuo Village in Oguta Local Government Council for attempted arson.

The PPRO said the fire was put off by some people in the area almost immediately after Ogbonna ignited it.
Similarly, police in the state has arrested kidnappers of Bishop Moses Chikwe, the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, who was kidnapped alongside his driver, Ndubuisi Robert on 27th December 2020.

Parading the suspects, SP Ikeokwu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Mohammed, said “the command refused to rest on its oars even after securing the release of the bishop and his driver and as a result of that, the suspects involved in the act were arrested.”
The suspects were Peter Aluo aka Okwudor, 28 years, Ihedum Ulunwa aka Iron, 31 years and Osinachi Ngozi 26 years, all from Awarra in Ohaji Egbema LGA.

“They all confessed to the crime and also narrated their role in the operation as well as other related operations”, SP Ikeokwu added.
