Uzodimma’s proposed N10B loan from Access bank, a welcome development – Imolites

Say borrowing for capital and economic projects, step in right direction

The proposal and move initiated by Imo State government last week to borrow the sum of 10 billion Naira (only) from Access bank Plc for the purposes of ensuring the completion of Owerri-Okigwe and Owerri-Orlu roads has been described as a welcome development and an idea that could only come from a visionary leader like Gov. Hope Uzodimma.

A number of Imolites from Ikeduru, Orlu, Isiala Mbano, Njaba, Mbaitoli and Okigwe LGAs who spoke to NIGERIAN NEWSGUIDE weekend hailed the idea and commended Gov. Uzodimma for his determination in turning the fortunes of the state around for the good of Ndimo.

Among those interviewed were two prominent indigenes of Ikeduru and a business woman in Isiala Mbano who bared their minds to us via telephone conversation. They agreed that the sorry state of Owerri-Okigwe and Owerri-Orlu roads over the years was negatively affecting the economy alongside lives and properties of the people living around the roads more especially around Ekemele-Akabo, Orie Amaraku-Anara, Umuaka, Orodo and Okporo-Orlu axis.

Comrade Nnamdi Ijezie who is the President General of Ezenomi-Uzoagba community, Mazi Chris Okoronkwo, PDP chieftain in Atta-Ikeduru and Mrs Rose Unachukwu a business woman in Amaraku, Mbano were full of excitement with the news of the proposed 10b naira loan from Access bank Plc to fund the completion of the mega Owerri- Okigwe/Owerri-Orlu  roads.

The trio described the roads as one of the major economic stimulants which when completed would boost the Imo economy to a reasonable extent.

“The Owerri-Okigwe road over the years was somehow abandoned, even some measures taken before now to fix the road defied every structural engineering design. A lot of people have died and still dying as a result of the bad nature of the road, most trucks that carry chippings sometimes break down on the very bad spots of the road and cause heavy gridlock that hamper smooth flow of the economy. Some low income earners that live in Akabo, Ihodimeze, Atta, Amaraku and come to work in Owerri everyday pay outrageous transport fares and had started parking out before the commencement of the current work on the road by the Uzodimma administration which has now given them hope and respite.

We are happy and excited when the cheering news of the proposed 10b naira loan from Access bank Plc required to complete this Owerri-Okigwe road along with the Owerri-Orlu road was broken to us, and we say kudos to Our dear Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma.

Borrowing to fund capital and economic projects is a step in the right direction, it is far better than borrowing to fund recurrent budgets and consumption which is the bane of Nigeria’s successive governments.

We therefore advise the governor and his team to strictly ensure that every penny from this loan is deployed towards the realization of these projects. We encourage the governor to possibly explore other means to source the funds needed to conclusively realize these critical projects.

On the other hand, Crainburg Construction Company Ltd handling the projects must be monitored very closely to ensure that quality work is delivered to Ndimo at record time”.
