The once peaceful community of Okwuabala Ihioma in Orlu Council Area, Imo State is boiling following the news that an ancestral land belonging to one Mr. Eugene Ugwumba was sold by his kinsman, Fidelis Ben Nnadi in connivance with Anthony Nnadi, a retired Navy Officer.
Nigerian Newsguide investigations revealed that the large expanse of land of over seven plots was sold at a whopping sum of N15million and the money, pocketed by Fidelis Nnadi and his associate, Anthony, without the consent of the original owner of the said property, Eugene Ugwumba.
In an interview with Nigerian Newsguide weekend, an enraged Ugwumba said trouble started when he went to inspect the land situated at Apatala Okwuabala, but was chased away by some irate thugs who informed him that their employer, Ebenezer Nwoha had bought the property from the duo of Fidelis and Anthony.
Ugwumba wondered why his land would be sold without his consent.
While alleging that Anthony Nnadi is using his position as the President General of Umudim Family Association to hinder genuine efforts by his kinsmen to resolve the matter, Ugwumba however expressed confidence that he would recover his land come what may, adding that the long arm of justice will soon catch up with the Nnadis.
When Nigerian Newsguide contacted Anthony Nnadi via his mobile line, the Rtd. Naval Officer said he didn’t sell any land belonging to Eugene Ugwumba, but insisted that the owner of the land Ugwumba is laying claims to, is Ben Nnadi, his uncle.
“The land belongs to Fidelis Ben Nnadi and he is my uncle, so, he sold his land”, Anthony told Nigerian Newsguide.
When also contacted, Fidelis Ben Nnadi denied selling any land belonging to Eugene Ugwumba, adding that the land he sold belonged to his late father, Ben Nnadi.
According to him, “I sold my father’s land, Ben Nnadi, I am the oldest son of Ben Nnadi alive today.”
