All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Imo State, Dr Vitus Ayo Enwerem has warned members of the Association to stop waiting for Government grants or incentives before venturing into farming and other agro ventures.Enwerem said the era of having portfolio and briefcase farmers who only exist on AFAN’s social media platforms was over under his watch.
The AFAN boss stressed that before you call yourself a member of AFAN or other commodity Associations, you must own a farm or agro-venture no matter how big or small. He said ADP, Imo Polytechnic Umuagwo and NDDC have tractors and other equipments farmers could hire to produce for commercial consumption.
Enwerem made the call at an Expanded Exco meeting of the Association comprising all LGA chairmen, SWC members and FARMERS DAY/AGRO EXHIBITION planning committee members where 15th and 16th of October this year were okayed as Farmers Day/Agro exhibition in Imo.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the event Amb. Mrs Ijeoma Nwachukwu and other subcommittee chairmen took time at the meeting to brief those present on the pre-event activities and budgetary provisions which the house eventually approved some funds partly required for them.
Some LGA chairmen at the meeting asked to be carried along fully in membership registrations and the overall planning of the Farmers Day/agro exhibition even as they pledged to put in their best in making the occasion historic and successful.
