Ukanacho laments dearth of intellectual properties, poor readership
It was a gathering of the Who is Who in the Southeast and beyond, weekend, as Bishop of Oru Diocese (Anglican Communion) Rt. Rev. Dr Geoffrey Chukwunenye marked his 61st birthday. The ceremony was also used to launch his new book “Favoured by Grace” a collection of Synod presidential addresses of Bishop Chukwunenye.
The special event took place at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel Mgbidi, Imo State. In his sermon at a church service that preceded the ceremony, Bishop of Afikpo Diocese, Rt. Rev. Paul Udogu called on Christians to learn how to persevere in times of difficulties. He described Bishop Chukwunenye as an epitome of perseverance, diligence and commitment to God’s work despite the odds and called on Christians to exhibit the character of giving, particularly to the church more than anything else.
In his remarks at the birthday ceremony and book launch, Chairman of the occasion and 2015 UPP Guber candidate in Imo State, Dr Osmond Ukanacho lamented the dearth of intellectual properties and poor readership. Ukanacho who was represented at the occasion by the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NIGERIAN NEWSGUIDE, Mr Chidi Emeagi said absence of quality books and other materials that could edify and transform lives alongside poor readership particularly among the youthful population is the reason Nigeria is bleeding profusely in all fronts. He called on University lecturers, teachers, religious leaders, journalists, etc to come up with more books and write-ups even as he urged people to read more edifying works instead of wicked religious sermons, listening to hip-hops, comedies and other things that have the potentiality of poisoning the soul and radicalizing same for extremism.
Ukanacho commended the author, Bishop Chukwunenye for giving our generation such a scholarly work and urged others to emulate him.
The celebrant, Bishop Geoffrey Chukwunenye and his wife Dr. Mrs. Joy Chukwunenye were seen beaming with smiles whilst the event lasted. Bishop Chukwunenye however expressed joy at the turn out of guests invited to the ceremony, and expressed deep appreciation to God for sparing his life and that of his family thus far.
Among the dignitaries that graced the birthday anniversary and book launch were Archbishop of Owerri Province Most Rev. David Onuoha, Archbishop emeritus of the same Province, Most Rev. Benneth Okoro, Bishop of Aguata Diocese Rt. Rev. Sam Ezeofor who reviewed the book.Others were Bishop of Owerri Diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Chukwuma Opara, retired Bishop of Ihiala Diocese Rt. Rev. Ralph Okafor, a number of spouses of the Bishops, Chancellors of Orlu and Oru Dioceses, alongside Priests from within and outside the diocese, and Knights, Dames and Ladies of various sacred orders and members of Oru diocese.
Some distinguished Nigerians were also honored at the unique occasion.
