Media Relations Consultant, Chief Dr Fidel Onyeneke has commended Media practitioners for the mature and unbiased way they covered the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Imo state.
Chief. Onyeneke while reacting to the presidential visit in Owerri, observed that Journalists in Imo applied high level of professionalism as the President paid the working visit. He noted the balanced reportage of the activities at each point the President visited.
“I am impressed that the Media practitioners did not exhibit sentiments. The reports in the credible media outfits were very reflective of the situation on ground” Onyeneke stated. The former Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State Council stressed the need for the Media to remain objective and engage in developmental Journalism. Chief Onyeneke appealed to the Media persons to always have the interest of the masses at heart and highlight the plight of the rural dwellers to the government.
The Media guru also appealed to the Media practitioners to showcase the programmes and developmental strides of the current Imo state government.He hailed Governor Hope Uzodimma for effectively hosting the President of the Country. “We must be grateful to God for the peaceful and successful visit of the President” he said. Chief Onyeneke expressed optimism that the visit would yield positive dividends not just to Imo people but to the entire South East geopolitical zone, considering the high level discussions and interactions between President Buhari and the stakeholders.
Chief Onyeneke urged the people to remain patient, as the key issues that affect the socio-economic growth of Imo state might be addressed as a result of the visit. He charged the Journalists to aggressively act as a veritable link between the Government and the governed. Chief Onyeneke also advised the government to carry the Journalists along as partners in the act of governance in order to boost their moral and enhance their productivity.
